Minister /Commercial


Mr. Charitha Yattogoda is currently heading the Commercial & Economic Affairs Wing of the Embassy of Sri Lanka to USA in Washington D.C holding the rank of Minister(Commercial). Prior to the current assignment, he served as the head of the trade promotion division of the Department of Commerce which oversees Sri Lanka’s commercial/ trade representations abroad spanning over 27 commercially important countries, holding the position of Director of Commerce.

In his last overseas posting, he served as the Consul General of Sri Lanka to Dubai & Northern Emirates in the UAE covering the period of October 2015 to January 2020, representing Sri Lanka’s overall interests.

Further, as a career commercial diplomat, he served in Sri Lanka’s Foreign Missions in Seoul/South Korea as a Minister Counsellor (Commercial), in Yangoon, Myanmar as a First Secretary (Commercial) and in Paris/France as a Second Secretary (Commercial) heading Commercial & Economic Affairs Sections of those Foreign Missions.
Additionally, in the previous assignments at the Department of Commerce, he served in different divisions which include, bilateral, regional, and multilateral & WTO affairs divisions, specialized in Trade policy related issues and overseas trade promotion.

Mr. Charitha Yattogoda graduated 2nd Class Degree in Bachelor of Science (Hons.) specialized in Economics from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and obtained Master of Arts Degree (MA) in Economics from the University of Colombo. Further, he obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Trade Policy at the World Trade Organizing in Geneva and completed four months Course on Dynamic Economic Diplomacy for Sri Lanka, offered by Building State Capability, Center for International Development at the Harvard University, USA. Additionally, he is a part qualified Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA), UK.

He has undergone number of overseas training programmes / workshops on international trade and related subjects in countries of Switzerland, Netherlands, Malaysia, India, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand etc. Further, Mr. Charitha Yattogoda represented Sri Lanka in countries of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, China, USA, France, Spain, Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines, European Union etc. as the head/member of Sri Lanka’s Presidential/ministerial/official government’s delegations in varies international meetings/fora in promoting Sri Lanka’s commercial interests overseas.
